Hi      It all started back in 1999, returning back to the UK after a short stay in Spain

I was looking for an office to work from,  and just by chance in Camden, North London

I found the Beehive Photographic Studios. On renting an office at the Beehive, one of

my first purchases was a Little Orange iMac with a copy of Photoshop 5.

Now days I will use my camera in the same way that an artist would use a sketch pad,

to record images for later.  I am finding this has put the fun back into making images

again.  Manipulating camera images is not a new idea at all. Photographers someway

or other have always manipulated camera images. Either in the camera with the use of

lenses or filters or when printing by shading or burning in.

My photographic life has gone through many changes, leaving school in 1959, age 15

I  got  jobs in what use to be called D & P Labs. These where factories where the public

sent their films, black and white only at this time. Colour was still in it's infancy. But

the main point of working in these labs, apart from the wages, which if my memory is

correct was Two Pound Tenshillings a week. My first wage packet contained 2/6 over

time as well.    No, it was so that I could process my own films,  shot on my Yashicaflex.


My photographic work in 1961 was a collection of black and white prints of girlfriends,  and a rather large collection of prints  of  my               sculptures.  I  saw my future as a Sculptor. My heroes being,  Barbara Hepworth,  Henry Moor,  Jacob Epstein, and  Constantin Brancusi .

   It was around 1963 that I landed a job at Wallace Heaton's, in London's Bond Street.  Where under the tutelage of very fine photographers,

   I learnt the art of portraiture on a 12" x 10" plate camera.  And how to shoot interiors and exteriors on a Speed Graphic or MPP half plate

   camera, with large blue flash bulbs, that x synch at 1/15 sec. Just typing this is making the hair on the back of my neck stand up. This really

   was a different world,  In 1966 World Cup,  Found me Smudging

   (slang for street photographer) all around London. Photographing the

   tourists and visitors to London. I left the Capital to work on the South

   Coast armed with Passport, Driving Licence, and Leica  M3.   After

working the beach front in Bognor and Brighton I finished up on the

Butlin's Holiday Camp in Bognor Regis, where I was in charge of the

Colour Labs. After three years I left the camp, to join the cruise ship

Q.E.2 as a ships photographer on Transatlantic Runs. Over that period we spent five working days and nights at sea and, Friday Night late we would dock in New York until Sunday afternoon.  A weekend in New York, every two weeks not a bad job.  After two years, I was made up to Chief Photographer.  I finally left the sea, in 1982. Having spent 12 years sailing around the world, in what can only be

looked upon as luxury. During this period I did spend sometime ashore, where with friends. We set up studios and many other diverse businesses, In things like Banqueting Photography, Restaurant Photography, Colour Processing Labs, But the three day week in 1974

put pay to most  of these businesses.  Over the next 16 years I opened and closed five Photographic Studios in and around London.


Each studio a little bigger and better  equipped than the last one.   My final Commercial  studio  was a large open warehouse of  around (5,000 sq feet) 1,500 sq meters in the East End of London, where  I  was born and  spent my childhood. In which we built room sets for Glamour shoots and brochure photography. Which brings me back to the beginning 1999.  And my time as Chairman of the Beehive. The Beehive Studios finally closed in 2005,  The property  being purchased by developers. I still live in Camden, and I am now working on a set of  images in and around Camden, which I hope to finish some time next year 2014.
